Bhimeshwar Temple
Bhimeshwar Temple
The Bhimeshwar Temple must have been built about 350 years ago. It is recorded that this temple was renovated in 1758.
The local myths suggest that the location was formerly a Varkas land. Once while a farmer was ploughing the land he noticed that his plow had blood over its edges. This incident scared the farmer making me quite dizzy. Further he received an oracle stating the location of the deity and a command for making a temporary shade for the same. All of which was obeyed by the farmer.
Architecturally speaking, this temple boasts a typical Konkani style of construction, with slanting tiled roof and ornate wooden work. The premises also house idols of lord Maruti & Vishnu. This being a Shiva temple, it has got its traditional temple lake called 'Pokran' & simple 'Deepstambha'.
